Waller Home In 1930
Before the town of Fieldale existed the Waller Plantation occupied the area from Beaver Creek northward along the river. Mr. George Waller was an important man in colonial times. His home as pictured here looked out on a muster ground used by troops. His wife, Ann, was related to Patrick Henry. George and Ann Waller were buried behind their home shown here which is the area immediately behind the convenience store at the present day Methodist Church intersection. Their remains were later moved to Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville, VA. Later, in the 20th century, the home was occupied by Ad Merriman who ran a sawmill and hauling business. His nephew William Merriman worked for him hauling coal to the new Fieldcrest Mill furnace.
