Karen Hall Author of Once and Forever
On July 29, 2012 Karen Hall presented her book Once and Forever - The Story of Mount Airy Granite to a Sunday afternoon audience at the Martinsville and Henry County Historical Society. Granite from Mt. Airy, North Carolina is in use all over the United States. It encases Ulysses S. Grant in his tomb (an interesting bit of info) and forms the old bank building on the corner of Main and Walnut in Martinsville, Virginia. As you pass along Martinsville's Main Street you may notice the Keesee Building with its beautiful granite face. Charles Keesee was an important figure in early Martinsville history and was also a one-quarter owner of the Mt. Airy Quarry itself. You will enjoy this read as well as the profusion of related photos. Thank you Karen for a great book and an excellent talk!
