The Hut in Collinsville, VA
This is an old photo of The Hut Restaurant in Collinsville, VA contributed by Linda Fain.

"The vehicle in the lower right corner is a 1937 or so, according to my dad (Arlie Burnette). During the summer of 1972, the year I graduated from Drewry Mason High School, I worked at the Starlite Restaurant in Ridgeway, which was managed by Ted Balabanis, who also operated the Hut Restaurant. I’m in the process of trying to gather some history on the restaurant and building. I showed the photo to various employees around the courthouse and gathered many memories."

My mother, Carmen Gomez Gerber ran the Hut Restaurant in the 60's before Ted Balabanis took over. My grandfather, Alphonse Gerber was a trained French chef who cooked there as well. Working with my grandfather was James Penn. I remember all the long hours my mother and grandfather spent there. Many a party was had in the back dining room. I folded many napkins back then and still remember how to do it. Those were the "good old days." It was THE place back in the 60's.
