Shackelford Plaque in Mt. Airy Granite |
June 2012: This marker needs some cleaning. It marks the site of the old Shackelford Hospital on Church Street in Martinsville, VA. It was placed there sometime between the mid 1950s and 1990. If you've never noticed it that is no surprise. It is hidden behind the Church Street buildings on the south side. View a map here and go take a look. The blue dot on the map marks the spot. While you are downtown walk over to the old Courthouse on the Square and view the Shackelford display in the Historical Society museum.
