Church Street 1921 |
In 1921 the downtown area of Martinsville, VA was still mostly residential. The house partially visible on the right was that of Hiram and Ella Hundley - it later became Leggett's and then Grand Furniture; the Shackelford Hospital, converted Teague home, is across the street. The red dot farther down the street marks some buildings that are still visible in the Church Street 1951 photo. These buildings occupy the area between Walnut and Bridge Streets. The white rooftop on the left marks the postoffice.
