Mamie With Willie and James in 1947 |
Mamie Morris Sawyers was very outspoken. People who worked at Fieldcrest Mills long ago still recount her witty comments. And here she is with her husband Willie (cigarette) and James Stultz. I think she looks pretty tough here. A tiger. Now Mamie and Willie had no children. But Mamie stepped up to raise her brother's twin girls after their mother died. And Mamie simply glowed with those little girls - Martha and Nancy. She did a great job. April 15th through the 21st is Boys and Girls Club Week and National Week of the Young Child begins on 4/22 so we will be featuring children all week. But first we wanted you to meet Mamie ... tiger Mom.
