Trout in the Classroom |
Area children are lucky to have Dr. David Jones in their midst. It was his idea to introduce area school children to the river and brown trout. Between 2005 and 2008 he sponsored over 30 trout tanks in Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania County schools as part of a Trout Unlimited project. The Smith River in Bassett, VA beside the Bassett Historical Center provides a beautiful place for the students and teachers to release fingerling sized trout that they have nursed along in classroom tanks. Students at one of the first trout releases are pictured here with Governor Tim Kane and Dr. Jones. April 15th through the 21st is Boys and Girls Club Week and National Week of the Young Child begins on April 22.
