The Bassett Historical Center houses many treasures and regularly entertains a number of excellent speakers. Such was Thomas Camden from the Library of Virginia who gave an interesting presentation on April 17th. Camden brought several items from the Library of Virginia's extensive collection. Some interesting objects included a miniature book containing 5 speeches by Lincoln - tiny but readable, Declarations & Pleadings, a law book belonging to Patrick Henry, Cornwallis' letter requesting parole, a copy of the Virginia Order of Secession drawn up in 1861 and more. Programs at the Bassett Historical Center are always excellent thanks to the efforts of Pat Ross and her staff: Anne Copeland, Sam Eanes, and Cindy Headen. Don't miss the next program on Tuesday, April 24th at 11 AM - a presentation by Ralph Berrier, Jr. on his book If Trouble Don't Kill Me. Berrier will bring his daughter with him as she helps with the "music-playing" for the program.
