If You Have A Short Big Toe Then ...
you are in good company. Here is a bronze model of the Statue of Liberty's foot and notice her big toe! Maybe you've been embarrassed all these years when people say "Well I see you are the boss in your family!". What does that mean? Well a longer second toe was once associated with royalty especially when the Greeks were in their prime. In statuary and shoe fitting it has been called the Greek foot or pied grec (as opposed to the Egyptian foot, where the great toe is longer). It was an idealized form in Greek sculpture, and this is demonstrated in the Statue of Liberty as she is said by some to be modeled after the Greek Goddess Hera. So wiggle your toe proudly! The anatomical difference does cause some problems however. It is known medically as Morton's toe and causes painful shin splints as well as metatarsal arch pain.
