Meadows of Dan School Burned
Looking at this beautiful old school now so raw and exposed makes you feel bad. Meadows of Dan School in Patrick County, VA was built in 1939 at about the same time as Bassett High, Fieldale, Brosville and old Martinsville High on Cleveland. Brosville and Meadows of Dan, until the fire at least, always sparkled noticeably showing that someone cared. Bassett and Martinsville look great also; Fieldale High ... well. You be the judge on that. The Meadows of Dan School burned almost a year ago but still has not been demolished for construction to begin. In a June 14, 2012 Martinsville Bulletin article construction of a new school was projected to begin in the fall of 2012. Maybe it's those books still on the shelves that are so troubling.

Reader Input: There have been many schools located in the Meadows of Dan area over the past 200 years or so, the current school has been standing on its present location for over 70 years. When Meadows of Dan School was first built it was designed to be a high school, although it also included grades 1-7. The current school became an elementary school after the Patrick County High School was opened in 1970-1971. Meadows of Dan Elementary School now supports Pre-Kindergarten through 7th grade.
