James Athey Wade of Ridgeway, VA was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg. He lived to come home but with a bum leg. Here he is applying for a pension of $15. To earn the pension he swears that he does not ear $300 per year at any job nor does he or his wife own any property worth $1000. The year is 1893. James was the father of Laura Ellen Wade Eggleston and, in 1880, operated a harness shop near Wade Springs and Ridgeway.
