Remaking Henry County : Marlene's House

Street View Before

We passed this house back in the 1950s on the way to Bess Tilley's Beauty Shop. It overlooks the J.A. Stegall Bridge and the Norfolk Southern rail line along Appalachian Drive in Fieldale, VA. The yellow 'before' shot here looks pretty rough. But before it was yellow it looked even more run down. Long, long ago the house was new (1940s) and may have been occupied by the Williams family who later operated the Sycamore Inn. Other occupants, possibly Dr. Rucker, followed. In the last few years Marlene Dalton's children took the house on as their special restoration project. Marlene's sons and grandchildren did all the work. They are the Hatchers: Jeff, Jeff Jr., Randy, Sam, Chris, and Wayne.

No siding was used to cover the outside. All wood was stripped, sanded and refinished in new paint. New porcelain fixtures are installed throughout.

Marlene is interested in the house's history. If you can help her send your comments to THIS EMAIL and we will forward them on to her.
